New Safety Railings Installed at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena

BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive Barbara J. Fiala and New York State Senator Tom Libous unveiled the new safety railings at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena Monday morning at a news conference.
Senator Libous helped secure the approximately $60-thousand dollars needed to do the improvements. Work began about a week ago and the entire project should be finished this week. Visitors will get their first look at the new railings at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on October 1st during a scheduled concert. The Binghamton Senators Hockey Season opens at home on October 7th.
“The safety of the visitors to the Arena has been a priority of mine and I am pleased we were able to work with the Senator’s office to secure the necessary funding to provide this convenience for everyone visiting the Arena,” said Executive Fiala.
“I’m pleased to have worked with the County Executive to help make the Arena a better, safer venue,” said Senator Libous. “The safety of the visitors to the Arena is a top priority of mine, and the new handrails will substantially improve the venue’s ability to handle large crowds.”
When the work is complete more than 200 new railings will have been put into place. Last year more than 280-thousand people attended events at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
